Wake up at 7am. Hit the snooze button. 7:15. Snooze. 7:30. Snooze. 8:45. DAMN! Overslept.
Confessions of a Bad Law Student
If every conversation I heard in the law library about how much study everyone does is true, then I am in serious trouble.
If I read more than 40% of my reading list all semester I would be truly gob smacked. My notes will be printed off the night before the exam, and the term ‘my notes’ only applies to the extent that I paid for the paper they are printed on.
Should I go on an exchange?
International student exchanges are available at most, if not all, Australian universities. They can be short study programs overseas, or a full year abroad. It is usually a hard decision to make – both personally and financially. So why should you do it?
To laptop or not laptop at law school?
Taking handwritten notes in a lecture room full of laptop users requires a lot of self-discipline, especially if the lecturer is catering for the technologically-inclined. But persevering with your pen and paper has its rewards – and you will thank me when it’s time for the exams.
Should you do Summer School?
Summer is almost here! Although it seems miles away right now, under all those assignments and exams is actually summer. While you may be dreaming of lying on the beach, sleeping in, staying up late and neglecting your laptop for two months, have you considered taking an intensive summer class?
Surviving the Socratic Method
You have to admit, it’s a fairly impressive legacy. Even though he lived over 2,400 years ago, the Greek philosopher Socrates, still manages to make tutorials a terrifying experience for modern day law students, thanks to the Socratic Method.
