When it comes to law school competitions, mooting attracts most of the attention. But at the new Negotiating Outcomes on Time (NOOT) Competition, it’s all about negotiation.

Held in Brisbane last month, the intervarsity competition saw teams from eight Queensland universities negotiate on a range of administrative law scenarios, including immigration and citizenship, social security, taxation, veterans' affairs and workers' compensation.

In a world-first for the legal industry, the Tristan Jepson Memorial Foundation yesterday unveiled its Psychological Wellbeing: Best Practice Guidelines for the Legal Profession to tackle the high rates of depression and anxiety within the legal fraternity.

The Guidelines aim to create mentally healthy legal workplaces by assisting firms and other legal employers to identify workplace factors that are key to mental health, and introduce initiatives to address them.

Professor Wendy Lacey will be the University of South Australia’s new Dean of Law, the University announced last week.

Professor Lacey, who specialises in Australian public law and human rights, has been with the UniSA law school since it was founded in 2007, and has been the Associate Head of School since 2010.
