Sarah Derrington

The University of Queensland has a new Dean of Law. Professor Sarah Derrington, who is an alumna of the faculty, began her new role as the head of the TC Beirne School of Law this week.

As dean, she plans to focus on strengthening the law school’s links with the legal industry.

“My priorities will be to encourage professional involvement with the School; to lift our research profile; and to make our student experience the very best that we can make it,” she said.

Derrington has taught at UQ’s law faculty since 1994. She specialises in maritime law, particularly admiralty law and marine insurance, and coached the winning team for the 2012 International Maritime Law Arbitration Moot.
