King & Wood Mallesons and UK law firm SJ Berwin have put an end to months of speculation, announcing that the firms will merge later this year.
The firms will combine on 1 November 2013, and SJ Berwin will change its name to King & Wood Mallesons. SJ Berwin brings several new locations to the firm: nine offices in Europe and one in the Middle East.
After the merger, King & Wood Mallesons will have more than 2,700 lawyers, including 550 partners, working across 30 offices in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, America and Australia.
The announcement comes less than 18 months after the combination of Australia’s Mallesons Stephen Jaques and Chinese counterpart King & Wood in March 2012.
