The University of Queensland has defeated the University of Western Australia to take out this year’s Administrative Appeals Tribunal National Mooting Competition.
After making it through five preliminary rounds, UQ and the University of Western Australia faced off in Brisbane earlier this month before three tribunal members, including AAT President Justice Duncan Kerr.
UQ students Nathan Lindsay, Eloise Gluer and Erin Gourlay defeated UWA’s Sam Pack, Nigel Siegwart and Cassandra Lee in a close final. Nathan Lindsay was named best orator.
The victory marks UQ’s fourth AAT Moot title in the last seven years.
This year’s competition scenarios covered topics such as immigration and citizenship, social security, veterans’ affairs, workers' compensation and taxation.
