There’s a new High Court Justice in town. Today Justice Geoffrey Nettle will be sworn in as the 51st judge of the High Court of Australia.

He replaces Justice Susan Crennan, who retires after nine years with the court.

Nettle J was appointed to the Supreme Court of Victoria in 2002, and joined the Court of Appeal in 2004. He began his career in private practice with Mallesons Stephen Jaques, before being called to the bar, where he specialised in commercial law, equity, administrative law and constitutional law.

He studied law at the University of Melbourne and civil law at the University of Oxford.
