Six Australian cities have made the list of the world’s 50 best cities for university students.

In this year’s QS Best Student Cities index, Melbourne was named the top Australian city, sitting in second spot globally behind Paris. London came in third, while Sydney was sitting pretty in fourth place.

Canberra joined the rankings in 21st position, followed by Brisbane (23rd), Adelaide (29th) and Perth (38th).

The cities that made the cut rated highly across a range of factors, including quality of universities, student community, affordability, quality of life and employment prospects.

The global top ten are:

  1. Paris

  2. Melbourne

  3. London

  4. Sydney

  5. Hong Kong

  6. Boston

  7. Tokyo

  8. Montreal

  9. Toronto

  10. Seoul
