Australia has performed strongly in the first ever QS Best Student Cities ranking, released earlier today.

Paris, followed by London and Boston, came out on top in the rankings, which rate the 50 best cities for students based on student mix, quality of living, employer activity and affordability. Melbourne placed fourth, and Sydney sixth. Vienna, Zurich, Berlin, Dublin and Montreal rounded out the top ten.

Although Australia was the only nation with two cities in the top ten, Melbourne and Sydney polled the worst in terms of affordability, rated 28 and 25 respectively out of a possible 100.

Of the three other Australian cities to make the cut, Brisbane was ranked 22nd, followed by Perth in 25th spot and Adelaide in 29th position.
